P-160 Asphalt Bleed-Block Primer

SKU: P-160-5

P-160 is designed for use over asphalt-based membranes that can turn silicone top coats yellow by leaching chemicals into the silicone. This primer locks in these asphaltic chemicals and keeps your silicone bright, whatever color it may be.

Available in: Gray color and 5 and 55-gallon containers.

Application: Spray-applying is recommended.

Details

P-160 Asphalt Bleed-Block Primer is a high quality, plasticizer free, single component, water based, acrylic primer designed for application over smooth asphalt roof surfaces. P-160 is formulated to act as a barrier between the asphalt surface and the silicone roof coating. Bleed-block primer prevents yellowing of the coating due to chemicals bleeding out of the asphalt roof. P-160 can be applied with spray, brush, or roller. Spray application is preferred.

Storage and Shelf Life: P-160 has a recommended shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in unopened containers between 40°F and 70°F. Refer to product packaging for date of manufacture.

Application

Prep: Prior to starting your roofing project, prep the roof by power-washing, removing dirt and debris, and making any necessary repairs. Ensure roof is completely dry prior to applying any primer or silicone. For more detailed preparation instructions, view our Technical Resources page.

Mix: Separation may occur prior to product application. This is normal and does not impact performance. Product should be mixed with a drill mixer for ~5 minutes prior to application.

Application: P-160 may be brushed, rolled, or sprayed on a clean, dry surface. Spray application is preferred. Product should not be applied when the ambient temperature is below 32°F or if the temperate will fall to within 5 degrees of the dew point within 6 hours after application. Apply P-160 at a rate of 1 gallon per 100 square feet.

Equipment:
Spray: Contact PM for specific pump, hose, and spray gun requirements.
Roller: 1¼” nap roller.

Limitations & Precautions:

Surface must be clean and dry. P-160 is water based and requires evaporation to cure. Material must cure for at least 24 hours. Low temperature and high humidity will slow the cure process. In these situations, even longer cure times will be necessary. Note: Blistering will occur if top coat is applied over base coat that is not completely dry. Do not apply P-160 Bleed Block Primer if there is any moisture on the substrate or risk of precipitation.
