Although silicone coatings are resistant to ponding water, best roofing practices always call for eliminating ponding water to ensure the highest level of roof performance and to prevent premature failure of the system.

SL-850 Ponding Water Eliminator is a single component, moisture cure product that is ready-to-use for quick application and is UV stable. Suitable roof substrates include TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, BUR (smooth & gravel surface), concrete, spray polyurethane foam and others. SL 850 is also recommended for repairing small blisters in spray polyurethane foam roofs.

Application

Examination: Prior to installation, the underlying deck should be examined to ensure the roof structure is sound and uncompromised.

Prep: Prior to starting your roofing project, prep the roof by power-washing, removing dirt and debris, and making any necessary repairs. Ensure roof is completely dry prior to applying silicone.

Application: The ponding area should be marked to outline the deficient area. The depth of the ponding water should also be noted prior to application to ensure the proper application thickness of the SL 850. Powerwash the roof surface and then prime the surface per the chart below. Pour the product onto the ponding area and use a trowel to smooth and level it out to the desired thickness and profile. Prior to coating the field of the roof, install 15 to 30 mils of silicone coating over the SL 850 to ensure the surface is properly sealed.

The typical coverage rate of a 5-gallon pail of SL 850 is 16 square feet at a thickness of ½”.

Equipment: SL 850 should be poured onto the roof and smoothed with a trowel.

Cure Time: Our High Solids Silicone Roof Coating cures in 8-24 hours depending on application thickness. Because conditions vary, it is recommended that you exercise caution prior to walking on recently applied coating.

Weather Restrictions: To ensure optimum performance, it is recommended that you do not apply this product when surface temperatures are below 40 degrees. In cold-weather applications, material should be kept indoors until immediately before application. It is also recommended that you do not apply this material while rain is falling. Rain will not cause silicone to wash off, but the substrate will become wet and will negatively impact adhesion.
